Intentional Sunshine #5 - Go Play Outside!

My friend called and wants to start hiking in the evening.  We start tonight!  I challenge all of you to find a friend and go for a walk or hike or jog, or eat lunch outside or put your chair in the sun and read a book, or go sledding if you are in the cold, make a snowball.  Get off your butt and go outside!

Praise the Lord!

Nate got accepted to medical school!!!!  The school is Nova Southeastern in Ft. Lauterdale, FL.  So excited that after all his hard work on the applications and the MCAT he is finally in!  Congratulations Nate!!!  No more worrying about where your life is going.  You can be a doctor!

Intentional Sunshine #4 - Thankful Things

I know I've posted a similar one before, but I think being grateful and thinking intentionally about what we are thankful for is important to being happy.

1. Living in Boulder.
2. Trips to the mountains
3. An apartment where the roof doesn't blow off
4. A job!
5. Interviews for more jobs!

What are you thankful for?

Intentional Sunshine #3 - Let something go

When I was first married, life was perfect and the other person was perfect.  Well after a year and a half I still love Nate, but life isn't so perfect.  You start getting annoyed at little things, like Nate gets annoyed if I forget to put the lid on the toothpaste.  Anybody with a roommate has little things that annoy them I'm sure.  This challenge is to let something go.  The next time they leave their plate sitting in the living room or track in mud on the carpet, just swallow your pride and don't say anything.  If you live at home and your mom nags you even though you have a college degree, maybe next time don't argue, just pick up your laundry.  Sometimes I think we want to argue and feel like we are right, but it doesn't really make things better overall.  Some things do need discussion and arguement, but a lot of the things people argue over really don't matter in the scheme of things.  Let me know how it goes!

Star Mobile

I made this mobile a couple weeks ago.  Would look really awesome against a colored wall.  Just hemp, stock paper, and a stick.  A hole punch would have been helpful.

I'm trying to figure out how to post things to different tabs, while still being apart of the main blog.  Bear with me while my site is under construction.

Life Update

Well so Nate just found out his femoral stress fracture did not heal.  He is back on crutches and meets with another doctor next week.  Pray he doesn't need surgery.  On Tuesday he had a med school interview at Nova Southeastern in Ft. Lauterdale, Florida.  He felt really good about it, and we hope he gets accepted.  I'm meeting with the doctor on Tuesday to talk about the progress of my hamstring.  It still has a lot of pain, but today I ran 4 minutes and walked 1min for 30 minutes with no pain.   So that is a good sign. I am looking for jobs, with no luck yet.

Soda/Pop

I came across an article on npr.com about a study that claims a soda tax will prevent thousands of cases of diabetes a year.  I personally don't think it would work very well.  It may cause a few people to think about the decision to buy soda, but overall, it is so cheap anyway that I don't think it would cause much of a change in behavior unless it tripled the cost of a liter.  The writer of this article interview the woman who performed the study.  I didn't drink pop growing up or in college really because my Mom didn't buy it and because I ran a lot.  Once I stopped running so much it didn't seem like such a big deal.  But it really is.   Also read the article, it will make you think a little about behavioral psychology and the destructive habits you might have.

Researchers say that if the price of soda gets higher, people will drink less of it, which will lead to fewer deaths.

Intentional Sunshine #2:  I am going to give up pop for the most part and I would challenge any of you to do the same.

How to be More Interesting

Well I think you are all interesting just as you are :)  But as I am currently unemployed, I need to find ways to keep my own life interesting and not just sit around and watch tv all day.  Nathan Moore came across this and I liked it, so I'm reposting it here.

They have a lot of good points, though not very specific suggestions.  Maybe my posts for the next little while will be me thinking of ideas to go with each one and trying them out. Let me know if you have suggestions.

Intentional Sunshine #1

Replace a fence with a hedge.

A hedge is a living plant.  Its presence will make people happier.  You might talk to your neighbor while you are clipping the hedge.  Birds and squirrels will have a habitat.  More oxygen is produced and CO2 is used up.

Resolutions

1. Find a job
2. Remain calm through all the unknowns and changes this year
3. More interesting blog
4. Be able to run 50 miles a week by may with no pain.
5. Make a colorado bucket list and finish it before we have to move

If you have resolutions, post them too!  Helps to say them to somebody.
